Mason “Franchise” Bennett
Mason “Franchise” Bennett is Yard Born Havoc’s competitive 12U shortstop and pitcher. He works hard, loves a big-game moment, and wants his teammates to trust him with the ball. His dad, Coach Travis Bennett, calls him a franchise player. Mason intends to earn the name, preferably without giving up
Behind the character
Mason has grown up around baseball plans, private workouts, tournament weekends, and his dad's network of coaches and facility owners. Travis Bennett is known as The Commissioner, and Mason is accustomed to that reputation opening doors before he walks through them. He plays shortstop and pitches. He expects to start at short, receive meaningful innings on the mound, and bat near the top of the lineup. Sometimes those opportunities reflect his performance. Sometimes Travis's advocacy and the assumptions surrounding the Bennett name make them feel guaranteed. Mason does not always recognize the difference. His baseball heroes are Derek Jeter at shortstop and Justin Verlander on the mound. Travis introduced him to both, and Mason has made those influences part of his own baseball identity. He wears number 2 in tribute to Jeter and practices the plays he sees in highlight clips. Mason loves competing and wants to be trusted when a game gets tight. Beneath his polished appearance and confidence, he also wants teammates to respect him for his play. His long-term character tension is learning to separate his own ambitions and achievements from the position his father expects him to hold. The Yard Born organization and community complex anchor his world. The complex includes baseball and softball fields, indoor training facilities, cages, a pro shop, a used-equipment shop, and a restaurant/icehouse. Travel and rec families share these spaces. Mason's uniform connects him to Yard Born's select program, while his siblings and friendships connect him to the larger community.
